YWCA is always looking for ways to maintain the facilities we have for the long term. We plan to be here for another 30 years and we need our buildings strong and functioning to meet the community needs in the future.
NEW BUILDING PLANS
Our goal is to build a new building at the Jackson street address that would help us meet community needs. At last review there were just under 800 licensed childcare spaces in Sweetwater County. Based on census numbers there are approximately 3,000 children under the age of 5. If even half of them need childcare there is a gap in the community.
The new building we envision would increase the number of available childcare spaces by nearly 70 and would offer the following options for parents.
- Provide a permanent space for our summer program (which currently borrows space from Overland Elementary).
- Allow YWCA to re-arrange classrooms and add another room for infants, which is another big need in the community.
- Provide a STEM classroom for special projects and educational development of the children.
- Provide an indoor gym area to allow the children space to be active even during winter weather.
We have been working on ideas for how to accomplish this both in terms of funding and design so we will keep you posted.
